Sheppard AFB/Wichita Falls Municipal Airport was awarded $1 million to help pay for the construction of a new terminal.

Transportation and Aviation Director John Burrus said the donation will go toward paying airport bills. He said the Federal Aviation Administration has two more years to pay for the project.

Secretary of Transportation in the United States Elaine L. Chao announced Wednesday that three Texas airports or programs received more than $ 70 million of the $ 520.5 million provided by the US Department of Transportation nationwide.
"This $520.5 million fund for airports across the country will help improve our nation's airports and make air travel the best experience for travelers," Chao said.
"Not only does the administration support the infrastructure with money - it makes it easier to get the improvements that are needed quickly. "The department is working hard to improve the approval process, reduce red tape and - unnecessary and reduce unnecessary, repetitive regulations that have no impact on safety," the DOT said in a written statement Wednesday.
This investment in the nation's infrastructure, the DOT said, comes at a time when the US economy is growing.

"Workers have added more than 7 million jobs since January 2017. To start the new decade, 225,000 strong American jobs were added in January 2020 and the unemployment rate remains at 3.6 percent—the lowest in 50 years," the - DOT. said.
Aviation is an important part of the country's economy as the country's aviation sector accounts for more than five percent of the US gross domestic product and nearly 11 million jobs.
"American Airlines gives citizens access to the world and at the same time brings travelers from abroad a first impression of the United States," said FAA Administrator Steve Dickson. "It is in our national interest to make them useful in our transportation system. The Airport Improvement Program allows us to do that."
